Salford Racing moved to a new workshop for 2025!

Updated: Nov 2

Salford Racing was situated in the University of Salford’s Newton Building. However, moving workshops to the dedicated Automotive and Autonomous Vehicle Technology (AAVT) Lab across campus took place earlier this month. The new facility has a considerably larger workspace which is paramount for our engineers to proceed manufacturing the car for the Formula Student competition.

Team Lead, Abdul Atia, describes the new workshop and what it means for the future of Salford Racing.

What were the reasons Salford Racing moved to a new facility for the new 2025 season?

The school was looking to open the AAVT into an electrical lab, and [we moved] because of the safety and risk assessments they have going on here.

He further stated:

"We had to find a new location to cover the workshop but it will give us fresh ideas, a cleaner workspace, and much more of a controlled environment. We would have this, and closer support from the school to get stuff done."

When asked about the difference between the two workshops, Abdul discussed the logistical challenges of the former workshop.

"If we ever had to get the car into locations, we would have to push it across campus.

"[Now] we have direct access to the dyno, and location-wise, it’s much easier to move stuff."

The AAVT building is in a much more secure location and is incredibly accessible for the team when transferring equipment. It provides direct access to the Salford Crescent roundabout straight onto campus which will be more convenient for deliveries, than the previous workshop.

What are your expectations from new location and therefore the team?

Discipline from the school to get stuff done properly and to be supervised. [Salford Racing] had issues in the past but with the new workshop I don’t see them being a problem in the future.

Salford Racing has completed most of the move. The team moved into the new workshop in early October and began organising, cleaning, and setting up storage systems to continue assembling the car for the 2025 season.
