Salford Racing is a participant in Formula Student, which is an educational motorsport competition, that was created to help encourage young engineers and entrepreneurs to join the engineering industry. It is an opportunity for students to showcase their engineering knowledge and develop their skills whist competing in a high-pressure motorsport contest.
Teams taking part must create, “a prototype for a single-seat race car for autocross or sprint racing and present it to a hypothetical manufacturing firm. Each team goes through a rigorous testing process, made up of: static events and dynamic events.” – Formula Student.
As well as this, teams must demonstrate their technical analysis, engineering design and manufacturing skills. Students will learn about the importance of great teamwork, time management, project management, budgeting and presentation. The teams must gain sponsorships to help fund the car, as well as document the progress of the project on social media.
Another element of the competition is the FS Sim Racing where the students can compete in monthly races starting from December and culminate in the finals taking place during the Silverstone Challenger event.
In July of 2024, we will make our way down to the infamous Silverstone circuit along with the other competitors, where our car will be tested on various factors in the tests mentioned above.
