Salford Racing’s business department has been working efficiently and excellently since the winter break by retaining, whilst also acquiring, new sponsors.
The department are proud to have continued sponsorships with Salford Van Hire, who support the team with transport; ProFormance Metals, who have helped with chassis tubing; and Link Engine Management, who are providing the engine control unit for this year’s car.
New names to our list of sponsors, thanks to the work of the business department, includes Accu Components and Easy Composites, whose support will pay dividends this season.
Speaking on Salford Racing’s Car 61 podcast, James Dagnall, the business team lead, said: “We are a university Formula Student team therefore we have to liaise with the university, we’ve got sponsors, so we have to liaise with the sponsors.
“Whether it be retaining sponsors we had last year or whether it be getting new sponsors, they all want meetings and explanations as to what the future is going to be like for Salford Racing - what’s the benefit of Salford Racing, how good are we.”
The business team, who are in perfect harmony with the engineering departments, are confident that the car being produced will be worth its weight in gold and are optimistic for the future of Salford Racing.
James added: “The meetings [with sponsors] are very important, you go to try and make sure you can acquire these big-name sponsors.
“You want to be able to go into the meetings with the sponsors we’ve already had for a long time and the main partners that we’ve got.”
James studies Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Salford and was part of the aerodynamics department last year but has impressively transferred his assets to business with ease.
He also has confidence in his department for their main event: the team’s business presentation at Silverstone. This Dragon’s Den-style business pitch sees the department act as chief financial officers for Salford Racing as they convince judges why the team is a good business venture.
James said: “Having this opportunity at student level, you gain the experience that you would get at, for example, a Formula One team.
“This is the closest thing you can get to this level in student life - having to go between departments, seeing the decisions that have to be made, the analysis and structure of how things are decided upon.”
